Resistance leaders update Iran on Gaza ceasefire proposal
TEHRAN- Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Iran’s Foreign Minister, has discussed a fresh ceasefire plan in Gaza with leaders of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad resistance groups, emphasizing that the Palestinian people alone should determine their own destiny.
Ismail Haniyeh, the political head of Hamas, was anticipated in Cairo on Thursday to discuss the planned truce in Gaza, which he has stated should put a stop to Israel’s military assault of the region and ensure the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops.
Haniyeh presented a report on the “indescribable resistance and resilience of the Palestinian nation and resistance groups in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as the political plans and initiatives proposed to stop the crimes of the Zionist regime and exchange prisoners” during his phone conversations with Amir Abdollahian on Thursday night.
He went on to say that “resistance groups, while maintaining their unity and cohesion, will consider the proposed initiatives only if they fulfill the highest interests of the Palestinian nation.”
During discussions in Paris on Sunday, Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Israel reached an agreement on a framework for a truce. Due to the location of the meetings, Hamas representatives were unable to attend.
Amir Abdollahian discussed his recent contacts and discussions with officials from various nations and international organizations, stating that “the immediate cessation of the Zionist regime's crimes against the homeless people of Gaza” is critical to restoring regional security and peace.
The foreign minister also commended “the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people in the last four months.”
“Only the Palestinian people, as the main owners of this land, have the right to decide on their fate and future, and no party can impose their will and political plans on them,” he continued.
Amir Abdollahian also spoke with Islamic Jihad leader Ziyad Nakhala, emphasizing the importance of Palestinian, regional, and international measures to quickly cease Israeli atrocities, offer humanitarian help to the Palestinian people, and fight forced displacement of Palestinians.
He went on to say that the “resistance of the Palestinian nation in the past four months, despite the widespread crimes of the Zionist regime, is a source of pride for the entire Islamic world, freedom seekers of the world and humanity.”
Nakhala thanked Iran’s leadership, president, government, and people for their assistance in the cause of liberating Palestine and al-Quds.
“The Palestinian people and the resistance will definitely win the current battle, and the Zionist occupiers will have no choice but to submit to the steely will of the Palestinian people,” he stressed.
“Only way to end regional crisis is for Israel to stop atrocities in Gaza”
In a telephone conversation with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Thursday night, Amir Abdollahian emphasized that putting an end to Israel’s war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people is a crucial first step in ending the crisis throughout the region.
He went on to add, “Any coalition and escalatory measures similar to what the U.S. and the UK did by attacking Yemen will not only fail to help restore stability to the region but will also lead to a more complicated situation.”
“Iran advises all parties to take immediate, effective, and sustainable measures, focusing on the main roots of the crisis, because the root of the crisis lies in the occupation.”
Amir Abdollahian thanked Borrell for his constructive involvement and emphasized the need of maintaining a dialogue-based approach to crisis resolution.
He also underscored the solid and positive communication channel between the European Union and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Borrell, for his part, expressed alarm over escalating tensions in the Red Sea and stressed Iran’s role in restoring regional security.
He commented on the European Union’s plan to join a marine alliance to supposedly safeguard commercial boats in the Red Sea, adding that the coalition has no intention of targeting any third country.
The parties also urged for various levels of communication between Iran and the European Union and emphasized the value of dialogue in promoting regional and global stability.
In a post published in Persian on X on Thursday, Amir Abdollahian stated that “the latest proposals to end the Zionist regime's genocide in Gaza, deliver extensive aid to this area and prevent the forced displacement of people in Gaza and the West Bank were discussed.”
He went on to say that the Palestinian people and the resistance are unwavering in their determination to get their rights, despite the high number of casualties, injuries, and damage in Gaza.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran always says that war is not the solution,” he noted.
After the Hamas resistance group in Gaza conducted a historic operation against the occupying regime on October 7, Israel retaliated in Gaza by intensifying its atrocities against the Palestinian people.
“Solution to regional issues is not war”
In another phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry on Thursday, Amir Abdollahian asserted that war is not the answer to the challenges facing the region amid the widening scope of tensions throughout the region.
He added, “Iran is not after expansion of the war, since we do not consider warfare to be the solution to the region’s growing crises.”
Amir Abdollahian believed that the Israeli regime’s prolonged genocidal campaign against the Gaza Strip, as well as Tel Aviv’s persistent crimes and occupation of regional lands, are to blame for the region’s crisis.
“All countries should focus on immediate cessation of war and atrocities against Gaza, and implementation of political solution towards resolution of crisis in Gaza and the occupied West Bank,” Abdollahian averred.
The Iranian official thanked Cairo for its attempts to provide humanitarian supplies to Gaza’s citizens.
Amir Abdollahian expressed Iran’s willingness to work with the Egyptian administration and the UN to deliver essential humanitarian supplies to the oppressed Palestinian people.
The top officials emphasized the importance of making diplomatic efforts to oppose Zionist projects that aim to forcibly relocate Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan in a serious and effective manner.
They also highlighted how critical it is for the nations in the region to work together to preserve peace and stability throughout the region.
